I installed this adjuster in my 2009 FXSTB, mildly modified, 105HP/110TQ. The bracket holding the shoe actually bent causing the shoe to tip outwards. Also, the “armour” bracket buckled and fractured. I used this adjuster along with the Baker compensator for approximately 5000 miles and all of it is now trash.
I recently purchased and installed the Baker Attitude Adjuster on my 2019 Harley Road King Special. The bike only has ~7,000 miles, so the change out of the primary chain tensioner was to preserve the mechanical integrity of the compensator, crankshaft/bearing, and clutch basket bearing. I noticed during the last 1,000 miles the shifting into the lower gears was a little difficult, and particularly shifting from neutral to first after a cold start - get the custom Harley “banging” sound. In preparation to replace the primary tensioner, after removing the primary case I measured the chain slack in several spots; consistent 1/4” - way too tight!! The installation of the Baker tensioner was very easy! The chain slack ranged from 5/8” to 3/4” in several spots. Also, I added HD 80W-140 gear oil vs Formula + Primary oil for additional lubrication capability. During the break-in of the new tensioner, I must say the gear shifting from 1st to 4th is about the same. The gear shifting from 6th to 1st results in a much smoother synchronization with the motor and clutch. Only slight concern is the primary is a bit louder with the Baker vs OEM auto tensioner. I’m going ride the bike for next 1,000 miles and see if the noise reduces in the primary. If the noise doesn’t reduce, most likely the chain needs tightening a little bit. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the purchase of the Baker tensioner!
As part of the process of building high performance H-D motors in my shop….. all primary drives are thoroughly inspected and upgraded as required no matter the mileage of any bike. I recently rebuilt a 2015 Bagger using all S&S components due to their high quality and reliability + being MADE IN USA….. same as with all parts I purchase from Baker Drivetrain…… because MADE IN USA means everything to me!!! Upon removal of this particular bike’s outer primary cover I could instantly see that the primary chain was BANJO STRING TIGHT due to the JUNK OEM auto primary chain adjuster ratcheting itself into that position. I instantly ordered Baker’s manual chain adjuster to permanently correct this problem. This adjuster (although fairly expensive at $300) is extremely well designed…… is very high quality….. is a straight forward install….. completely resolves the overtightening chain issue….. and is MADE IN USA by REAL AMERICANS that build the absolute best H-D drivetrain parts in the world !!! High quality, super dependable parts are expensive…… but given what these parts can SAVE a person over many years….. are very much worth their price tag…… guaranteed. Plus I love doing business with a “mad scientist” like Bert Baker for many reasons….. and know that he stands behind his products 100 percent + strives to do all he can to take excellent care of his customers. It works perfect very good. Top quality made in the United States of America. I don’t put 6800 miles on it no trouble at all.
