Release #43 - September 2023

4-Speed Complete Transmissions

The introduction of the Knucklehead and the 4-speed in 1936 marked an epoch in the history of American motorcycles. Many consider the period of 1936-84 the holy grail of Harley-Davidson®.

In 2010, BAKER Drivetrain released the BAKER 4-speed with modern improvements to carry on the legacy. In recent years, we temporarily discontinued the BAKER 4-speed complete transmission. Due to the overwhelming demand for the 4-speed transmission, we have decided to run a limited supply!

Disassemble the DD6R and DD6 Countershaft

At BAKER Drivetrain, the countershaft in every transmission has been engineered in a very specific way to ensure the durability and longevity of the gearset. The countershafts in the Big Dog transmissions (DD6R) and Direct Drive 6-Speed transmissions (DD6) are similarly designed and run through the same process of being disassembled and assembled. Watch this video with tips on disassembling the DD6R and DD6 countershaft to make the process of a rebuild as easy as possible!

Big Dog Maintenance Parts

Big Dog Motorcycles was founded in 1994 by Sheldon Coleman Jr. The line began with a single motorcycle in its first year, peaking at 25 finished motorcycles per day by 2007. Big Dog produced ten different models between ’94 and 2011: the K-9, the Ridgeback, the Chopper, the Husky, the Boxer, the Mastiff, the Pitbull, the Coyote, the Wolf, and the BullDog. The company shut down in 2011 and recently opened back up. There are many Big Dog Motorcycles still out in the world, and we are now once again offering transmission parts for 2005-2010 models!
